Beach and Towns Tour

Bike Tour: Beach and Towns Tour - 7 days

On endless sandy beaches, take big breaths of sea air and let your cares fly away with the wind. In Zandvoort and Scheveningen you will stay the night almost directly by the sea. Behind the dunes you’ll discover a diverse hinterland with multicoloured bulb flower fields, lovely historical towns and all sorts of tourist attractions. If you like art and culture, you’ll have a ball in the cities of Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. On your bike, you’re free to stop where you want, to visit a windmill or a cheese dairy, for instance. You’ll have ample opportunity for (window) shopping and visiting museums.
Day 1: Arrival in Utrecht
Day 2: Utrecht - Amsterdam
Day 3: Amsterdam - Zandvoort
Day 4: Zandvoort - Scheveningen
Day 5: Scheveningen - Gouda
Day 6: Gouda - Utrecht

Day 2:    Utrecht - Amsterdam
63 km

Idyllic scenery today as you cycle to Amsterdam on the banks of the lovely River Vecht. Characteristic for this area are the many stately homes and summerhouses built by rich Amsterdam merchants in the 17th and 18th Centuries. At the end of the day, Amsterdam awaits! Everyone has their own reasons for loving this remarkable city. What will yours be?

Day 3:    Amsterdam - Zandvoort
40 km

You'll love the elegant city of Haarlem, voted best city for shopping. Remember to look up at the façades of historical buildings and see if you can spot the pretty stepped gables. Our bike route then continues through Zuid-Kennemerland, a colourful area rich in natural beauty. In well known beach resort Zandvoort you will stay the night by the sea.

Day 4:    Zandvoort - Scheveningen
43 km
Today youll cycle through the Dune and Bulb Region. The windswept dunes not only protect the hinterland from the sea, but also harbour many species of dune flora and fauna. April is your best bet for visiting colourful bulb fields (daffodils, hyacinths and tulips) just behind the dunes. On the coast, check out the resorts and beaches. Once you reach Scheveningen, you will be spoilt for choice of things to do.
Day 5:    Scheveningen - Gouda
63 km

First you will cycle to The Hague, home to the government and the Queen. The city is brimming with things to do and see. You might like to take the opportunity to see Vermeers famous painting "The Girl with the Pearl Earring in Mauritshuis Museum. Another favourite is Mesdags cylindrical Panorama of Scheveningen in 1881. After looking around The Hague, ride through open grassland to pretty "cheese town Gouda, also known for its syrup waffles and candles. If possible, plan your holiday so you can see the Thursday morning traditional cheese market.

Day 6:    Gouda - Utrecht
69 km

Woods, stately homes, parks, rivers, polders, lakes and marshy fens make todays scenery. Opt to stop off at a cheese dairy or visit De Haar Castle. At the end of the day, explore the heart of the lively city of Utrecht. Discover the pretty Museum Quarter and admire the beautiful canal Oude Gracht. Its wharves are unique to Utrecht and make a pleasant setting for waterside cafes.

...It was our first experience with Dutch Bike Tours and I couldn't have expected more. We loved our Holidays !!! Holland is an amazing country if you are a cycling fan. We did Beach and Town Tour and it met our expectations 100% . We loved the routes we were given, multicoloured fields, ride along the lakes, beautiful villas, windmills every day was different. The cherry on the cake was our way back from Utrchet to Amsterdam where we needed to cross the canal using "pontje"!...

...I would highly recommend DBT, very professional and helpful team. We left a shirt in one of the hotels and I rang DBT to check if any possibility to recover and even though the driver already collected the bags he returned to that hotel and picked our shirt. This is the type of service I value very high !! Dear DBT Team thank you very much for making our holidays unforgettable, one thing Im sure we will be coming back...

...All hotels were good and staff very friendly. Holland is a beautiful country and perfect for cycling...

...Our trip went very well et we appreciated the quality of the road book.  Maybe, it lacked a few advice concerning the restaurants.  The hotel in Zandvoort was less nice than the others but the quality of the breakfast counterbalanced the fact that the room was less nice than the others.  Finally, we appreciated the last room « upgraded ». Biking in Holland is very easy (flat roads and very well indicated). The stages could have been longer or options could have been suggested...

...We had a very pleasant trip, wonderful scenery, good accommodation with excellent breakfasts, and the use of quality bikes. Thank you...

....We were and are still very satisfied with our journey among Netherlands. The arrangement with bikes, luggage and hotels works out very well. We did "Citys and beaches" and it was really nice goodlooking places. We had extremely luck with the weather, then it´s easy to use bikes. We were almost the only people who used helmets, interesting. So many good and beautiful looking bicycleroads,  with numbers of each. We had a GPS, it worked out well and was easy to use....

....Thank you and Lieke very much for all the effort you have done to organize the fantastic bike tour. We had a very very good time cycled over 400 KM and lots of hours of cycling all around beautiful Netherlands. In fact the organization from your company was excellent by all means and we really appreciate all you have done to make this trip a so memorable trip. We are planning a trip for the future as there is so much to see and experience in The Netherlands and as bike lovers it is a real Fiets paradise....

...The hotels were really nice. In fact, we enjoyed our stay in Scheveningen so much that we went back again before heading home! the adjustable handlebars. That was really good for the long days of biking. The panniers were excellent and huge, great for holding an entire backpack of stuff. I liked the real brakes, not back-brakes.
One of the best days was the Zandvoort to Scheveningen day - the dunes were so cool! The other best day was from Gouda to Bunnik, that route was so beautiful and we had lovely weather...

...We really enjoyed the tour. The bikes were good and well maintained and all the luggage transfers went very smoothly. We will probably do another Netherlands tour in the future. If we do we will use Dutch Bike Tours. Thank you for a lovely holiday...

....All went well many thanks. GPS was invaluable as through cities, like Amsterdam, the cycle route signs were not consistent and we needed the GPS. I would suggest you advise anyone who thinks they dont need it/can manage with Google maps on an iPad that their routes arent good enough. i.e GPS pretty mandatory.
I think on the first day we should have had someone there who could adjust the bikes or at least give us an Allen key's panner so we could do it ourselves. Not much point having the person meeting you who cant adjust the bikes. Otherwise very enjoyable....
